When the State of Delaware requested an alternative to standard mineral oil-based fluids for the hydraulic systems of three new dredges, Ellicott Dredges reviewed several suppliers of biodegradable fluids. "We selected Anderol Bio Guardth Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid (FRHF) based on its compatibility with our existing hydraulic system - mainly seals and hoses," said Steve Miller. "Standard fluids work fine in the hydraulic system, but pose a danger to the environment when accidentally released," he said. "Additionally, a spill in a coastal waterway could bring heavy EPA fines, enforced by the Coast Guard."
