The Roy Sharpe Prize is for significant contribution through research and development in any branch of NDT to the benefit of industry or society. This prize is awarded by the NDT Technical Committee of the Institute.In 2019, the Roy Sharpe Prize is awarded to Dr Martin Spies.Martin Spies has studied physics and materials science and his qualifications include Doctor of Natural Science and a diploma in physics from Saarland University, Saarbruecken, Germany, as well as an MSc in materials engineering from the University of Houston, Texas, USA. In 2001, he was awarded the academic venia legendi in the field of non-destructive testing (NDT) at Saarland University.
