As a channel for the gathering and transmission of oil and gas in a shaft bottom, oil-well tubing of an intelligent well plays an important role in oil producing operation. Once the tubing is damaged, oil and gas production will be influenced and, to make things even worse, the wellmay be discarded. In order to prevent these accidents, a method for monitoring intelligent oil-well tubing damage was proposed. With the advantages of requiring no real sensors and no production halts, as well as offering high temperature resistance, good pressure resistance, supreme corrosionresistance and strong stability, this method is especially suitable for oil-well online tubing damage monitoring based on field signature method (FSM) technology in intelligent wells. An FSM tubing damage monitoring model for an intelligent well was established. Schemes of electrode arrangementand downhole monitoring system design were identified according to the numerical analysis. Simulation research concerning uniform and localised corrosion of oil-well tubing were carried out. With the simulation result, a method for judging oil-well tubing damage was presented. All in all,the study of the FSM for the monitoring of oilwell tubing damage attaches great importance to the research of oil-well tubing damage monitoring in the future.
