TWI finite element analysts achieve Professional Simulation Engineer accreditation

NAFEMS Professional Simulation Engineer (PSE) is an independent certification programme, providing an educational framework for professional development, which was launched at the NAFEMS (International Association for the Engineering Modelling, Analysis and Simulation Community) World Congress in 2013. NAFEMS PSE accreditation is highly regarded within the industry due to the benefits it brings to the individuals who achieve it, their employers and end-user clients. Eight finite element analysts from TWI have each achieved NAFEMS PSE accreditation for their expertise in numerical modelling and optimisation. The team uses finite element analysis (FEA) techniques to simulate the behaviour of structures under static, dynamic and cyclic loads, including the analysis of the welding process for distortion and residual stresses. It also models the inspection and testing procedures required by relevant standards, such as BS 7910, API 579, R6 and BS 7608, as part of engineering-critical assessments (ECAs) and frtness-for-service (FFS) assessments, as well as developing in-house software tools to supplement commercial FEA software codes.
