Lord exits Pentagon after tenure focused on reform

Pentagon acquisition chief Ellen Lord departs the Pentagon today as one of the few senior defense officials to remain at her post over the past four years, bucking the high-level personnel churn characteristic of the Trump administration. Unlike many Trump appointees, Lord largely avoided criticism and earned bipartisan support, all while working in an area often derided in Washington for familiar buzzwords and a lack of progress: Pentagon acquisition reform. Previously the chief executive of Textron Systems, Lord came to the Pentagon with no government experience when the Senate confirmed her in August 2017.
