California utilities, transmission groups spar on long lines coordinating agreement

Utilities and transmission interests are locked in a battle overnthe coordination of the operation of three 500 kV lines connectingnCalifornia and Oregon.nAt issue is the latest agreement for the operation and maintenancenof the Pacific AC Intertie and the California OregonnTransmission Project. The PACI, constructed in 1967 and ownednby Pacific Gas and Electric, consists of two parallel 505-mile, 500nkV transmission lines running from southern Oregon to centralnCalifornia. The majority of COTP and related facilities are ownednby the Transmission Agency of Northern California and thenWestern Area Power Administration. PacifiCorps owns a substantialnportion of both projects.
