Formation of frost is a major industrial and commercial concern as it takes a toll on the larger economy from delayed flights to power outages. Ice buildup costs industries billions of dollars every year in mechanical breakdown and lost efficiency. Today, it takes thousands of gallons of antifreeze chemicals to defrost the mechanical components in industries. These chemicals run off into groundwater and can affect vegetation and humans. Hence, there is a need to develop new frost tackling methods.
