Abstract—An ingenious algorithm and software are developed to determine the fractal dimension of a surface according to the results of its scanning, which make it possible to estimate the fractal characteristics of the surface rather than its indirect parameters and to obtain a fractal dimension D higher than the topological dimension Dt = 2. Using the developed technique, we study AMg5 alloy samples subjected to strain of different degrees in the transition region before and after the strain macrolocalization in the form of strain bands. The relationships between the surface state and the internal structure of the material are revealed.
