China has been identified by many international food ingredients suppliers as a major target market in the Asian region. With a population in excess of one billion and a rapidly developing food industry that is demanding an increasingly sophisticated and wider range of food ingredients, multinational suppliers are moving to invest heavily in China. One of the major industry focuses in this region is nutrition, wellness and nutraceutical products. Over the past 20 years China has seen annual spending on health products increase 15-30 percent every year. This is significantly faster than the 13% growth in developed countries during that time. The growing disposable incomes and improved health awareness, together with worsening health problems and an aging population are said to be the major contributing factors.
