The simplest way to store and secure archival data is to segment it according to the company's organizational structure, preserving and updating in the archival records the data relationships that exist operationally in the business. For example, each employee could be considered to be an archival unit. Many automated systems-particularly e-mail and Instant Messaging archiving systems-are tailored to this metric.
