摘要

The strength of Lewis, Eysenbach, Kukafka, Stavri, and Jimison's (2005) Consumer Informatics: Informing Consumers and Improving Health Care lies in the editors' efforts to provide a comprehensive collection of short readings in the general, and underresearched, area of health informatics. Toward this end they include chapters on designing and evaluating health informatics information delivery methods; the impact on a variety of user groups of these online sources of health information; ethical and security issues involved in health informatics; and descriptions of a number of health informatics projects. While such a collection would be useful, there are a number of problems with this particular volume: chiefly, a general lack of critical analysis of the topics pursued within it.
