A DISPLAY WEEK LIKE NO OTHER

When I heard Display Week 2020 was being turned into an online event, I didn't know what to think. Of course, I had high expectations-anything put together by the Display Week Program Committee and supported by the team at PCM was going to be great. Still, I had never experienced a virtual conference before and had some concerns about how it would all come together. I'm sure I wasn't alone. Thankfully, when thefirstdaycameand weall signed in,the results were impressive. The format was intuitive, and the technical quality of the presentations was quite nice. There were some hiccups, as we've all come to expect from this new platform of video conferencing. But foremost, all the great content and events that were promised were there to enjoy. I PARTICULARLY LIKED THIS YEAR'S EXPANSIVE RANGE OF NEW AND TIMELY topics in the seminars and short courses. Similarly, the Business Conference was even more inclusive, as the virtual format made it possible to feature an expanded number of speakers. This is one of the advantages of this new platform-the nearly unlimited potential for quality content. No longer was I bound by the clock and the conference schedule. Instead, I was restricted only by the need for food and sleep! In fact, a full month after the conference, I'm still working my way through the symposium papers and virtual exhibits. Having this "live" version still available to continue to consume is a remarkable advantage. Assembling an online, world-class scientific and business conference is not easy, especially when it has to be done in three months or less! An extremely enthusiastic team of SID volunteers, along with our conference management and marketing partners, assembled an incredible show that both mimicked the real-life event and enhanced it. Led by Volunteer and Conventions Chair (Online) Sam Phenix, they did everything you can imagine to ensure that every important feature of the live Display Week was implemented suitably in the online version. That includes planning the overall event, selecting the digital platform, defining the required elements, and executing an ambitious sales and marketing plan.
