Milan hosted SMAU 2000 from October 19 to 23, 2000, "the second-largest Information and Communication Technology exhibition in the world and the largest in the Mediterranean area" in terms of visitor numbers, according to the organizers. Once more, a record number of visitors - 505,000 compared to 490,000 in 1999 - were able to view the products of nearly 3000 direct and indirect exhibitors, 820 of whom were from outside Italy (up 35% over 1999).
