SECOND WORLD CDS/ISIS CONGRESS

In Information Development 21(1) we brought you a preliminary announcement of the Second World Congress of CDS/ISIS Users. This Congress was held in Salvador, Brazil on 20-23 September 2005 in parallel with the ninth International Congress on Medical Librarianship (ICML9). The rapporteur was Dr Andrew Buxton of the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in Brighton, United Kingdom and he kindly submitted the following personal reflections to Information Development. It marked twenty years of CDS/ISIS, the first World Congress having taken place in 1995 in Bogata. The overall event was the result of the joint action of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, PAHO/BIREME and the IFLA Section of Health and Biosciences Libraries. (BIREME is the centre for medical information in Latin America and the Caribbean of the Pan-American Health Organization.) Over 120 participants attended the CDS/ISIS Congress. After a joint opening ceremony with ICML9 addressed by Lucia Santaella, Professor in Communication Theory at the Catholic University of Sao Paulo, it got underway on the Wednesday morning.
