This article presents the results of a study on the influence of adding 0.75% to 8% microcrystalline SS.B talc (from the Spanish talc producer Luzenac Set) to a porcellanato stoneware ceramic body. The soda feldspar and talc eutectic reduces the vitrification temperature in rapid firing cycles. It also improves the stain resistance of polished tiles. The study shows that the SiO_2/Al_2O_3 ratio should be constant and that the optimal content of SS.B talc is 3.2%. The bending resistance (MOR) is also improved by 20%. With its very low iron content, SS.B talc is particularly effective for the production of superwhite bodies containing zirconium because it does not affect the performance of the colouring agents in the body. The addition of SS.B talc has less effect on pyroplastic deformation than magnesite or wollastonite and is more efficient in improving stain resistance than dolomite and nepheline syenite.
