Jammu & Kashmir: Improving Bivoltine Cocoon Production in Kandi Belt of Kathua

The Kandi belt in the Shivalik range is a rainfed area without any other source of irrigation. It is spread in the north-western state of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. The unirrigated zone lying in the mountaneous tract of Shivalik in Jammu at an altitude between 300 m to 1000 m, covering the districts of Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch, is also known as Kandi belt. In the Jammu region, this belt stretches between longitude of 74°21' East to 75°45' E and latitude of 32°22' N to 32°55' N, except in the western region where it lies between the latitude of 32°50' N and 33° North.
