XI FIVE YEAR PLAN PERFORMANCE: HIGHLIGHTS

It is an established fact that the Indian sericulture and silk industry could register impressive growth in the post-independence period mainly through the Five Year Plans that proved to be the spring board for planned and systematic development of different segments of the industry. Given the complex nature of the Indian sericulture industry with varied agro-climatic conditions, number of local and improved host plants and silkworm varieties with different productivity range of cocoons and silks, different package of practices, multiple levels of stakeholders with different levels of education, understanding, technology adoption and needs, the very idea of all round development of the industry with quality and productivity in the forefront, is certainly a Herculean task.
