Vigilant Gate Keeper's Timely Action in Ensuring Safety Averts Rail Mishap

Shri Diwakar Kumar Singh, Gate Keeper was on night duty at Level Crossing No.140 between Sulur Road - Somanur in Coimbatore - Erode section of Salem Division on 10 October, 2018. At 1.00 hrs he heard an unusual sound while Train No. 16616 Coimbatore-Mannargudi Chemmozhi Express was passing through the Level Crossing. Upon inspecting the track a rail fracture was found near the LC gate. He safeguarded the track as per rules immediately and informed the matter to the Station Master of Somanur through the phone available at the LC gate. The Station Master swiftly passed the information to the section engineers and higher officials. Speed restriction was imposed in the section for the subsequent train at 2.40 hrs. The track was later restored and trains were operated with normal speed from 3.05 hrs of 10 October, 2018.
