Brief history of power generation in West Bengal

First power generation in this planet of earth took place in USA and UK almost at the same time. In the year 1882, Edison inaugurated the first central generating station in New York in USA comprising a load of 400 lamps, each of 83 W. Started about at the same time, the Holbom Viaduct generating station in London was the first power station among its type in Britain to cater consumers having a 60 kW generator with generation voltage of 110 V dc.rnThe first major a.c. station in Great Britain was installed at Deptford where power was generated by 10000. H.P. machine and transmitted at 10 kV to consumers in London. The state of West Bengal had not to wait for a long time.
