This paper presents the results of both conventional and direct tension pullout tests that were conducted to evaluate the interface parameters for an 8 mm diameter TMT bar embedded in different Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) matrices. Two types of fibers namely polyester and steel (corrugated fibers) that were used for reinforcing the ECC matrix were evaluated. The paper examines the pullout mechanism and failure patterns and compares the bond strength and pullout energy. Because of compatible deformations between an ECC matrix and the steel reinforcement in tension, the direct tension pullout test was found to be more realistic and relevant to ECC than the conventional pullout test.
