The paper deals with the construction of an RCC Box curved box bridge below the existing arches of a bridge. Since the arch bridge was about 100 years old and the load carrying capacity of trains has increased over the years, the re-habilitation and re-construction of such bridges was required. In the South Western Railway system, there are about 622 such bridges safely carrying the present loading standard of the Railways, yet, on a programmed basis, rehabilitation and reconstruction of such bridges is required otherwise they will start failing in due course. Therefore, the work of rehabilitation by epoxy grouting, guniting/shotcreting and in some cases, building a new bridge in a curved shape for taking the complete load of the trains is required. This paper describes the method of constructing a new RCC curved box bridge, underneath the arches of an existing bridge, which is designed to take the 25-ton axle load of modern-day trains.
