In our last issue we reported our extremely interesting meeting held on 11th December at Ealing Studios, with which we closed the 2001 Events programme. Jim Slater and Martin Uren provided stimulating papers with that report. In the course of the evening, as well as snapping my usual slides with my ever-handy compact camera I had explored the "Still-Shot" facility of my Sony DCR PC1E Digital Video Camcorder. (The camera's manual is covered with different titles, but MiniDV seems to identify its affinity specifically enough.) It is a neat bit of kit for the well-heeled amateur, which I suppose I must therefore be. It is, in fact, sometimes used sneakily for low-budget professional inputs, though 35mm it certainly isn't. It is a 1-chip camera, and there also exists a bigger, 3-chip version, and our friend Gillie Potter is the quite proud owner of one of those.
