Attendees at the AAMI 2016 Conference & Expo, June 3-6 in Tampa, FL, will have the opportunity to experience how interoperability affects patient care and outcomes. According to AAMI organizers, this "interactive experience" will demonstrate how vendors use standards to enhance patient safety by addressing the interoperability of medical devices and systems. The exhibit will have two parts: an interactive use case and a theater. This year, AAMI will focus on the emergency room (ER) by following what happens to a patient who becomes ill at home and calls for an ambulance. The use case will model the interactions between the first responder and the patient in his home and then as he is treated on the way to the hospital. After that, visitors will see the experiences of both the patient and the first responder in the ER, including how interoperability facilitates patient care.
