Sylvie Nerisson's book is a delight. Even though this qualification may sound unusual in reviewing a book entitled La gestion collective des droits des auteurs en France et en Allemagne: quelle legitimite? (Authors' Rights Collective Management in France and Germany: What Legitimacy?), it is absolutely justified to describe the feeling one gets when reading this 750-page opus that is based on the author's thesis co-directed by Professor Frederic Pollaud-Dulian and Professor W. Nordemann (maxima cum laudae and winner of the Andre Isore thesis prize). Ms. Nerisson is particularly gifted to express in her own special witty way a deep legal study at the crossroad between copyright law, contractual law, competition rules. comparative law and European law. The subject was challenging: not only was a perfect knowledge of French, German and European legislation required, which Ms. Nerisson has, but also the capacity to keep pace with the ongoing evolution of the applicable rules at the national and European levels under the constant pressure of jurisprudence of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) and of the Commission's decisions, various resolutions and preparation of the Directive. Case law is abundant as is also, unfortunately, the Commission's activity in the field.
