The Microwave Technology has a rich history with basic contributions by Faraday, Maxwell, Rayleigh and above all Hertz who verified the concepts of electromagnetic wave propagation. The research work concentrated on generation, guidance, detection and control of short wavelength electromagnetic wave propagation. Applications of the technology have been - key driver in the development of the field over the past 100 years. Although, early credit for invention of wireless communication went to Marconi for using ele'ctromagnetic wave propagation in free space, very few people are aware that Dr J C Bose first generated, transmitted and detected signal at 40 GHz (mm Waves) and this work was carried out in our own country - India - at Calcutta. With extensive efforts of my colleague at IIT Kharagpur - Dr P K Bandopadhaya, Dr J C Bose has now been recognized world wide, including by IEEE, as the Father of Wireless Communication.
