The Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) has been developednas the framework to support administrations in managingntelecommunications networks. It suggests the use of OSI SystemsnManagement (OSI-SM) as the technology for management informationnexchanges. Distributed object technologies, such as the Common ObjectnRequest Broker architecture (CORBA), address the use of softwarenapplication program interfaces (APIs) in addition to interoperablenprotocols. Their use in TMN has been the subject of intensive researchnin previous years, with most approaches focusing on interoperabilitynaspects with OSI-SM. We examine the issues behind using distributednobject technologies in TMN via a native fashion, with network elementsnsupporting distributed objects directly, e.g., a “CORBA to thenswitch” approach. The proposed solution tries to maintain the fullnOSI-SM expressive power in a way that other solutions have not attemptednbefore. Performance and scalability issues are considered, while thenapproach has been validated through implementation
