Plane cover multiple access: a new approach to maximizing cellularsystem capacity

We develop a new media access control strategy, called plane covernmultiple access (PCMA), that provides a means of allocating wirelessnbandwidth in a packet-based cellular system. PCMA seeks to maximize thennumber of parallel transmissions among cells by defining virtual cellsnin which users transmit using a given reuse factor. By keeping the reusenfactors low, system throughput can be maximized. We show that thenthroughput of a simple system designed using PCMA is up to 82% morenefficient than capture division packet access (CDPA), the best knownnalternative for the cellular mobile environment
