A comprehensive model for steady-state analysis ofnpolarization-mode competition in fiber distributed feedback (DFB) lasersnis presented. Effects of polarization-dependent grating nonuniformities,npolarization-dependent grating strength, coupling between the linearnpolarization states due to twist or Faraday rotation, back reflections,ncross saturation from serially multiplexed lasers, as well as spatiallynand polarization-dependent gain hole burning are covered by the model.nRegimes of single and dual polarization operation are identified forndifferent types of polarization imperfections in the cavity. The outputnpowers of the individual modes and the magnitudes of the hole-burningnmechanisms are also calculated anti discussed
