Frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) is used to investigatennonlinear pulse propagation in normally dispersive media. We presentnhigh-dynamic-range measurements of broad-bandwidth femtosecond pulsesnthat result from nonlinear propagation in fused silica and compare thesenmeasurements with a (3+1)-dimensional modified nonlinear Schrodingernequation. We also demonstrate the ability of FROG to provide informationnabout a noninstantaneous nonlinearity in methanol. In this case, theninstantaneous nonlinear index and the time response of thennoninstantaneous nonlinearity are used as fit parameters in an(1+1)-dimensional model
