Hidden Roots of Library Classification with Special Reference to the Philosophy of Word and Meaning

The present study is to include the hidden roots of Library Classification theory of Ranganathan and to establish the impact of the principles of ancient grammarians of India to the out-come of his theory. The oriental philosophical grammarians here rouse the interest of modern studies of Library & Information Science Ranganathan's categorisation of different concepts of words, name them in a particular category to solve the problem of facet analysis and the rules of facet sequence are purely plunged to the linguistic philosophy of ancient India. It has been traced there in all the approaches of the oriental grammarians like Bharrihari, Patanjali, Kumarila etc. Promalgation of seven categories by Ranganathan are to be congruent with the seven categories of Vaisesika Philosophy. Jati, dravya, guna, kriya is a syntactical sequence as stated in the oriental scripts. Ranganathan also postulated some sequences for absolute syntax, they are wall-picture sequence, cow-calf sequence, act and-action-actor-tool sequence etc. However these ideas are in the Indian philosophy, they are adhar-adheya, tadatma, karya-karan etc. Therefore there are the basic similarities. A sufficient unification of both the ideas would yield better result in the ever growing universe of knowledge.
