Understanding Neighbourhood Dynamics

What do we know about neighbourhoods? These two linked volumes, both products of preceding seminar events, attempt to answer this question and to point the way forward for future academic work in the field. The first volume, Neighbourhood Effects Research, reflects on the hypothesis that the area in which a person lives influences life prospects and trajectories independently of that person's individual characteristics. More specifically, Neighbourhood Effects Research aims to do three main things: (1) to assay current theoretical understandings of neighbourhood effects; (2) to provide some new empirical findings on the matter and, last but not least, (3) to increase understanding of data and methods suitable for searching for possible neighbourhood effects.
