Gypsies and Travellers: Empowerment and Inclusion in British Society

摘要

This book brings together academics and activists, several of whom are members of the Travelling community, in recounting the policy issues that impact upon the lives of Gypsy-Travellers. The book is an edited collection, with the editors co-authoring all but three of the chapters. Most of the academic names will be familiar to those with a passing interest in this area and comprise a group of scholars advocating the 'empowerment' of Gypsy-Travellers through greater engagement with the formal structures of civil society. This 'advocacy' position does however mean that the views of academics who take a more critical perspective and seek to problematise these complex power relations are lacking.
