Advocates Ask Appropriations Panels To Include Provisions to Preserve At-Risk Housing in 2011 Funding Bill

Housing advocates are asking the House and Senate appropriations committees to include in any final fiscal 2011 funding legislation certain time-sensitive provisions that could extend the low-income affordability of projects with HUD-subsidized mortgages and convert older rental assistance to Section 8 contracts.rnA National Housing Trust (NHT) analysis estimates that there are 77,404 units without Section 8 assistance in HUD-assisted projects with mortgages maturing from fiscal 2009 through 2015. These include Section 221 (d) (3) below market interest rate (BMIR), Section 236, and Section 202 projects.
