Today I purchased your CD comparative test on sub-￡3000 CD players, covering the Arcam FMJ CD36, Audio Analogue Maestro, Jadis Symphonia Evolution, Marantz SA-IIS1, Meridian GO8 and Nairn CDX2 from July 2006. And it is very interesting - my compliments! But I have a question. In your opinion, what is the tonal difference between the Jolida JD-100 (my actual CD player) and the Arcam FMJ CD36 (my possible upgrade)? Is the Arcam FMJ CD36 more warm? Hi-Fi News replies: Reviewing the valve-equipped JD-100 in May 2007, Ken Kessler described'a distinct sense of fullness, or maybe that should be "richness", and suggested that the Jolida's strengths lay in warmth rather than detail.
