Know your rights When we sign up to enjoy streaming our music, we also relinquish control of our personal data. Jim Lesurf thinks it's at too high a price - and what about unpaid royalties to musicians we enjoy?
For years I've been concerned about the way in which large corporations have been extending the scope of Intellectual Property Rights. As an author of many magazine articles, books, etc, I have good reasons to agree with musicians that copyright on what we produce is a good idea. Not only does copyright give us the chance to earn some income, it also gives us some degree of control over our work. Despite this, I've come to feel that the expiry durations for some forms of copyright are now rather too long. One result is that many books now languish out-of-print, remaining unpublished for decades because no-one now knows who owns the rights to them.
