A1 Flue Systems is already gearing up for this year's school summer holidays as it's the busiest time of year for installations, refits and maintenance projects. Last summer, the company completed projects totalling £850,000 in a frantic six-week period. Here managing director John Hamnett looks at some of the key factors that the team at the North Nottinghamshire-based company has to deal with to deliver such a large number of projects in such a short space of time. As a specialist in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of commercial and industrial chimney, flue and exhaust systems - it's often the big, high-profile projects, such as the one we're working on at Battersea Power Station, that tend to grab the headlines. But, in actual fact, it's all the bread-and-butter projects for hotels, office and apartment blocks, public buildings and schools that make up the bulk of what we do. Because we know there are set windows for working at schools and other educational establishments, we plan well in advance as we know that summer, Easter and Christmas breaks plus the half-term weeks get blocked out, so we can maximise the time we have to fulfil these contractors.
