Personnel Security provisions often concentrate on keeping the cargo out of unauthorised hands but, as Debbie Jones of Protek-dor explains, keeping the driver safe is just as important. Quite apart from the emotions the catastrophic events of September 11th back in 2001 conjured up, they opened the world's eyes to the dangers of a new range of prospective killer weapons - planes, trains and trucks. To combat the likelihood of a terrorist attack in the UK using commercial vehicles, the government introduced the Voluntary Code of Practice for the Security of Dangerous Goods by Road. A precursor to regulations being introduced on the transport of dangerous goods, which come into force later in the year, the code provides a comprehensive guide to vehicle load security.
