Conference report Attendees at the NPRA's annual International Petrochemical Conference, held this past April 3 to 5 in San Antonio, Texas, were treated to fresh insights into China's growth, US and European business strategies and US rail transport dynamics from some of the industry's heaviest hitters. What greater recognition could there be of China's rapid rise in importance as a chemical production centre than the fact that the first guest speaker during the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association's (NPRA) conference's keynote breakfast was Wang Jiming, vice-chairman and president of Sinopec. Wang crystallised for audience members what a long way China's production capabilities have come in a relatively short period of time. He also underscored China's commitment to strengthening its safety and environmental standards and said China needs to continue building up its transportation infrastructure and use of information technology.
