Technology Regulatory anxieties aside, a US test of tracking-related security technologies has produced some noteworthy findings that may well impact financially on the chemical distribution sector. When the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) released the long-awaited results of its 'Hazardous Materials Safety and Security Field Operational Test' this past March, road transporters began bracing themselves for the possibility that new regulations might require vehicles to be fitted with some or all of the tested technologies. The two-year, $5m study evaluated a range of security technologies with a goal of determining their efficacy in reducing the risk of hazmat shipments being used in terrorist attacks.
