With the grand opening ceremony of its new production facilities in China just days away, NT tank was last month happy to announce that impact testing results on its prototype tank container carried out in Goerlitz, Germany, were cause for celebration. NTtank reports that it obtained a perfect SRS curve at 13.7 km per hour. Deflection, which NTtank explains is now measured as a difference between the diagonals on each side of the tank, was 3 mm on one side and 4 mm on the other after the final heavy collision. The tested unit was manufactured to be significantly weaker than the standard Til unit, using only a 3.8 mm, ASTM 240 316L standard material shell, and 4.35 mm thick, 304 ends, explains NTtank marketing consultant Carol Maddox of Maddox Quality. Maddox says that NTtank now has full approval for capacities between 21,000 and 27,000 litres, and, according to the ISO regulatory, -10 and +20 per cent capacity range allowance. "While Goerlitz is rather a difficult place to travel to, the trip was certainly well worth the effort," says Maddox. "The test site and equipment are excellent and a credit to Brunei. There were 12 people to witness the impact test, representing inspection companies, depots, lessors and operators. Happily, the test was a resounding success, and it was followed by an excellent celebratory dinner afterward. Our thanks to all for taking the time to attend and support us in our venture."
