With pre-registration having started on June 1, REACH is now very much a fact of life for all companies across the chemical supply chain. In the following article, Nicolas Garderes, a lawyer with international law firm Denton Wilde Sapte, outlines some of the major legal implications stemming from this complex new regulation REACH is an ambitious regulation that represents a great leap forward towards the control of chemical substances, their follow-up and knowledge of their intrinsic characteristics. It has been adopted after long and controversial debates involving a very wide range of industries, environmental NGOs such as Greenpeace and a stunning number of contradictory impact studies, both micro- and macroeconomic, on how companies can handle the costs represented by REACH.
