In its report on the first half of 2011, Vopak describes it as a "transition year". It seems the Rotterdam-based terminal operator is not alone; there is a lot of work going on right now all across Europe — as well as further afield — as facility owners adapt their assets to meet the changing needs of shippers. What the year of transition means for Vopak in particular is a lack of growth, something the company — which operates the largest network of independent terminals around the world - has not been used to for some years, even through the worst of the economic downturn.
