Since we're going to talk about design in America, let's start with Jean Baudrillard, and his unique perspective on the country: One of the things I liked was when he described the US as "the primitive society of the future." It is true that Europeans, especially the French, love to romantically perceive themselves as victims of their own hyper-sophistication.In some ways this is why I chose to practice in Los Angeles, because it is a city with a short history that builds its future on the rubble of its own hasty growth. It is also as far away from European conventions as you can get before you hit Asia-which opens up some cultural freedom. As a European looking at the US, what is your perception of the design here today?
