One week prior to Christmas Vasy Kyry-lych a Ukrainian spokesman,declared the >Faina< deal had been closed.Negotiations between the owners of the roro >Fina<,the State of Ukraine,and the Somalian pirates,who had captured the ship which carried 33 tanks.A cargo of Kalashnikov rifles and ammunition on September 25th,had been concluded.He informed the international press,that >The talks had come to an enda,a the plan of action for releasing the hostages could be realised,<.Despite of the captured crew of 20 had severely suffered from fatigue,they were all considered to be in good condition and well.Apart from the Ukrainian seafarers on board the vessel there were two Russian and one Latvian crew members.The Russian captain tragically died of a heart attack shortly after the ship was taken.There were hopes the crew to be freed soon,however no details about the ransom published.According to rumours the pirates had initially demanded $35 million,which was supposed had been reduced later to $3 million.
