LNG on long-haul trades to become reality soon

LNG is still waiting for its breakthrough as a marine fuel. While LNG hasn't even reached significant user numbers in shortsea operations, Project Forward of Arista Shipping, ABS, GTT, Deltamarin and Shell aims forlong international routes. Together they have developed an LNG-fueled Kamsarmax bulk carrier design. The developers hope to establish vessels of this kind in the global tramp market and are already in talks with yards in China, Korea and Japan for a first order. Interest from owner, operators and investors is high as the 2020 global sulphur cap looms. Forward is also hoped to help overcome the chicken-egg problem of LNG demand and supply.
