TENCEL IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FIBERS. It is processed from wood pulp, using less energy and water than in cotton production. Finished projects made from lyocell (the generic term for Tencel) have a drape and sheen similar to silk, but the fiber is easier to work with because it does not pill or stick to itself. Tencel scarves that I wove 10 years ago still look as if they are fresh off the loom. I wanted to create a large, opulent piece highlighting the yarn in a luxurious way. The wrap that Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany s is iconic, and I was inspired by that look.
