Logistics have been a major part of planning the crossing. "We are treating each site separately and have a site manager for each," says Mace's Nic Hamlin. "Access at the south station has been the easiest. At the south tower we have had limited working times due to the tides. The north station is over non-tidal water but close to residential properties. "The north interim tower is located next to the DLR. Buildings that were part of the old Whitbread brewery site had to be cleared ahead of other demolition in the area by Laing O'Rourke to make way for the main north tower." With construction split between north and south of the river, Mace has had to deal with different suppliers for the same materials, as wett as working within two planning authority areas. Nonetheless, Hamlin says the site is well located with ready mixed concrete plants nearby.
