USDA to survey 24,000 farmers on conservation practices

The Agriculture Department is kicking off its largest survey to date on how farmers employrnconservation practices.rnFrom now through August, USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service will contact aboutrn24,000 producers in the first phase of the National Resources Inventory-ConservationrnEffects Assessment Project to determine which farmers and ranchers are eligible. Thernpurpose, NASS said yesterday, is to link the implementation of conservation practices withrnenvironmental benefits, such as improved water quality and better wildlife habitat.
