Ex-California Rep. Ed Royce is joining acting Interior Secretary David Bernhardt's former firm. The Republican will become Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck's policy director April 1 in its Washington, D.C., office, the firm said yesterday. The firm is a major player on energy and environmental issues in both Washington and the West. Brownstein noted that Royce focused on several issues in Congress including energy independence. Before joining the Trump administration, Bernhardt was a leader in the firm's energy practice. Royce will register as a lobbyist. First elected to the House in 1992, Royce represented parts of Los Angeles and Orange and San Bernardino counties. He went on to become chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Royce decided not to seek re-election in 2018.
