Rakon Rides Sentinel-6 Sea-Level Observation Satellite

Sea level is continuing to rise at an increasing rate. Measuring sea-surface height from space is Sentinel-6, a new low-Earth orbit (LEO) Copernicus satellite. Launched Nov. 21, 2020, Sentinel-6 sent back its first measurements of sea level in December. Sentinel-6 is contributing to an improved understanding of climate change. The satellite continues the work of prior satellites, which have been involved in measuring increases in sea level since the first major oceanographic research satellite was launched almost 30 years ago.
